Asia Rugby Women's Sevens Trophy

South Korea Victorious in Vientiane

19 February, 2017 in Womens Rugby, News by Asia Rugby

South Korea women saved their best performance for last sweeping aside the tournament second seeds, India in the final match of the Asia Rugby Women’s Sevens Trophy, 29-0, in a powerful display of Sevens rugby. And with the win, South Korea secured the promotion spot to the Asia Rugby Sevens Series 2017.

Over the course of the two days, South Korea displayed a greater level of performance as they stormed through the tournament with relative ease, beating Pakistan 48-0, Nepal 34-0, Malaysia 10-0, Philippines 22-5 and Laos 33-5.

India, who came into the tournament ranked second, justified their seeding as they slowly built momentum throughout the two days and set up a thrilling finale to the tournament with a hard-fought win over rival Pakistan, winning 5 – 0.

Malaysia women finished 3rd, Philippines 4th and host Laos 5th, which should set up an interesting contest for these 3 teams ahead of the South East Asian Games to be hosted in Malaysia in August.

Pakistan women, participating for the first time in an international tournament finished 6th, beating Nepal 17-7 and record their first ever women’s international win.
