Asia Rugby Sevens Series Korea

Korea top Pool with victory over Hong Kong

23 September, 2017 in News by Asia Rugby

In a top of the table clash at Namdong Asiad Stadium, hosts, Korea took the honours as they surged to an early 24-5 half time lead before holding on for a 31-24 win to top Pool B after day 1 of the Asia Rugby Sevens Series Korea.

Jeong Yeon Sik and captain, Lee Jae Bok both scored a brace of tries for the home side and now look forward to an easier quarter final tomorrow versus Chinese Taipei.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong have set up a mouth-watering encounter in their quarter final as they take on the pace and guile of Sri Lanka who will need to secure victory to keep their chances alive in the chase for one of the top two spots available for RWC Sevens next year in San Francisco.

nd in other matches, Japan once again dominated Pool A with a comprehensive win over Sri Lanka in their first match winning 47-5,  a 45-0 victory over Chinese Taipei and a 45-7 hammering of China in their pool match.

The quarter finals for Day 2 sees Hong Kong v Sri Lanka in the first quarter final followed by Japan v Philippines, Korea v Chinese Taipei and China v Malaysia in the last quarter final.

And in the women’s opening leg of the Series, Japan narrowly held off a spirited Kazakhstan team, who were welcomed back to tournament play following their hiatus, with a narrow 17-15 win. And on the other side of the draw, China once again dominated Hong Kong with a 22-0 win.

The quarter finals for Day 2 in the women’s competition sees Thailand v Hong Kong in what should be a cracker game to start the proceedings followed by Japan v Korea, Singapore v China and Kazakhstan takes on Sri Lanka
