Asia Rugby Sevens Series to be streamed live

11 September, 2018 in AR7s by Asia Rugby

This year’s Asia Rugby Sevens Series will be streamed live on Asia Rugby’s Facebook page.

With both the men’s and women’s events starting this weekend in Hong Kong there is a buzz around the sport following the recent Asian Games where Japan women and Hong Kong men made history.

Rugby World Cup Sevens

There are three rounds in both competitions this year starting in Hong Kong (14-15 September) followed by Korea (29-30 September) and Sri Lanka (13-14 October).

All matches will be available online with fans able to tune in on Facebook to watch as eight men’s and eight women’s teams compete for the titles.

Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, China, Japan and Korea will compete in both competitions while Kazakhstan, Singapore and Thailand make up the women’s eight and the Philippines, Chinese Taipei and Malaysia complete the line up for the men.

Japan women’s sevens

Japan women won both of the two women’s events in 2017 to win the overall title while Hong Kong (Sri Lanka), Japan (Hong Kong) and Korea (Korea) won the individual events with Japan taking the overall title.

This year for the women’s competition the series will have extra meaning as the highest ranked side except for China will qualify to compete in the Kitakyushu Sevens.

Additionally, the three highest ranked sides except for China will get a chance to qualify for the World Rugby Women’s Series in the Hong Kong qualifier.

This weekend’s tournament in Hong Kong begins with Asian Games bronze medallists Kazakhstan taking on Sri Lanka at 12:30 local time.
