Japan with dramatic victory over Kazakhstan

30 September, 2018 in #ARW7s, News by Asia Rugby

Japan won a sensational final at the Asia Rugby Women’s Sevens Series title in Korea, beating Kazakhstan 17-12.

In a pulsating fourteen-minute encounter Japan trailed 12-0 before Iroha Nagata, Emii Takanka and an eighth try of the weekend from Honoka Tsutsumi secured a second successive victory.

The win extends the Sakura Sevens’ lead at the top of the standings and moves them closer to securing a spot at the Kitakyushu Sevens. Kazakhstan’s second place finish means they are now second in the table alongside China.

Having lost to Japan in their semi-final China went on to defeat Hong Kong 31-10 in the third place play-off 24-10.

Earlier in the day Tsustumi was one of five scorers as Japan rounded out their pool campaign with a 41-0 win over Sri Lanka to maintain their 100% record in pool play.

The Asia Rugby Women’s Sevens Series now turns its attention to Sri Lanka on October 13-14 for the third and final round of the series.

Places at the Kitakyushu Sevens and the World Rugby Sevens Series qualifier will be determined, and you can watch it all live on Asia Rugby’s Facebook page.
