Chinese Taipei’s Hearts Touched With Home Tournament

5 June, 2019 in Chinese Taipei, Asia Rugby Championship, News by Asia Rugby

Chinese Taipei may have lost both of their Asia Rugby Men’s Division I matches, but hosting the tournament generated great exposure for the side.

Having been promoted from Division 2, Chinese Taipei put on an excellent event and a passionate crowd were treated to four thrilling matches.

Chinese Taipei

The biggest cheers came as Chinese Taipei scored their five tries, and despite a heavy 72-17 defeat to Sri Lanka there are positives to be taken according to captain Sun Wei-Chiang.

“It was very exciting to play in front of the home crowd, it really touched my heart,” said Wei-Chiang who scored their second try on Saturday.

“We are the local team and so it was great for the people, the crowd they gave us great big support.

“This will give us more valuable experience, we learned how to handle the ball better and know how important it is to play against higher ranked sides.

“Sri Lanka, they are a very stable team and so we can learn from them.”
