Division III East-South Indonesia

Indonesia set for landmark return to Asia Rugby Championship

23 June, 2019 in Asia Rugby Championship by Asia Rugby

Indonesia make a return to the Asia Rugby Championship this year in the Division III East-South competition.

They will host the tournament and welcome India and China to Jakarta, with matches being played at the Gelora Bung Karno Rugby Pitch which was built for last year’s Asian Games.

Indonesia will be coached by Bobby Natapradja, a former national player with 13 caps and his squad come from six different clubs with 16 players set for their debut.

They will also be captained by Daniel Nugroho who will be making his 20th appearance for Indonesia.

He is convinced his side will do their best against China on Sunday and it is a special moment for Nugroho as he also captained the side when they played China in 2015.

“It has been 3 years after the last international test match for Indonesian Rugby,” said Nugroho.

“We hope we can achieve a new milestone in international level, to win the tournament.
“Rugby is becoming one of the fastest growing sports in Indonesia. We have regular development programs, local competitions and elite squad training, much more than in the past few years.

“We are focusing on our youth development program, women’s rugby and elite squad training. Those three aspects I think will be a very solid foundation for Indonesian Rugby in future.”

The game will be shown with a time delay on Asia Rugby Youtube Channel
