Singapore slip down rankings after India’s historic win

24 June, 2019 in Womens Rugby, News, Asia Rugby Women’s Championship by Asia Rugby

Singapore’s Asia Rugby Women’s Championship Division I campaign has seen them fall five places in the

World Rugby Women’s Rankings.

Following on from last Wednesday’s 51-7 defeat to eventual champions China, over the weekend Singapore became India’s first scalp at test level, losing 21-19.

Those results combined have cost Singapore 2.42 rating points and they have now dropped to 38th place with Thailand, Uzbekistan, Tonga, Cayman Islands and Zimbabwe the sides to benefit.

India’s initial defeat to the lower ranked Philippines means they only end the week with an overall gain of just under a third of a rating point and so remain in 47th place.

China’s triumphant return to test rugby after an eight-year absence boosted their rating by 0.86 of a point but that was not enough for them to catch Belgium, the side immediately above them in the rankings, and they remain in 24th place.

Beaten finalists, the Philippines, move off the bottom of the rankings thanks to the win against India at the expense of Czechia.

Away from Asia, Kenya defeated Uganda 42-13 in the Elgon Cup to claim 0.35 of a point. They remain 31st in the rankings with Uganda 10 places further back.
