Asia Rugby Sevens Series 2022

Hong Kong Men, China Women Clinch the Asia Rugby Sevens Series 2022 First Leg

24 October, 2022 in Featured, #ARW7s, AR7s, Asia Rugby Sevens Series by Asia Rugby

The first leg of the eagerly anticipated Asia Rugby Sevens Series 2022,  the Thailand 7s, lived up to the billing with an action-packed weekend of top-class Sevens action concluding with a bang in Bangkok on Sunday, 23rd October 2022.

Thailand take well deserved bronze medal

The Hong Kong Men’s team capped off an impressive, dominant and undefeated showing at the tournament with a convincing 36-19 victory in the final.

In the Women’s competition, China prevailed over favourites Japan in the dying seconds of a thrilling, truly nail-biting final, eking out a 21-17 victory.

In the Men’s semi-finals, Hong Kong’s defensive play proved impenetrable, shutting out South Korea, while also proving equally effective on the offence front, notching up 26 points; Japan, on the other hand, reached the final with a relatively hard-fought 19 – 5 victory against a much-improved UAE team.

In the Women’s semi-finals, Japan defeated Hong Kong 14-7 in a toughly contested match, whilst China overwhelmed Thailand with a thumping 33 -5 win.

Congratulations 🇭🇰 and 🇨🇳 👏 🎉

Hong Kong Men’s Max Denmark and Japan Women’s Wakaba Hara had outstanding outings on both days of the tournament, and ended up Thailand 7s top try scorers: Max, with his deft footwork and superb bursts, secured 8, and Wakaba, with her blazing speed and amazing game sense, 7 tries.

The second and third legs, comprised of the Korea 7s and the UAE 7s, are both slated for November, the 12th and 13th, and 26th and 27th, respectively.

All three Sevens tournaments will be streamed live in their entirety on  Asia Rugby’s Facebook page and YouTube channel; fans will get to watch all the action in real-time as the top men’s and women’s national squads compete for the title of Asia’s best sevens team.
