Japan sweeps victories in Asia Rugby Seven Series

In the first leg of the Asia Rugby Seven Series 2023 staged at Namdong ASIAD Rugby Stadium in Incheon came to a thrilling conclusion as Japan emerged triumphant in both the men’s and women’s categories, Giving it a much-needed boost ahead of one of the most exciting Sevens Seasons. The two-day tournament witnessed intense battles on the field, with Japan’s men and women ultimately prevailing.

The men’s tournament showcased Japan’s resilience as they beat Archrival Hong Kong China with a nail-biting 12-10 victory in the final. This remarkable feat marked a stunning turnaround for the Japanese team, who had lost to China in the early stages of the tournament.

 

In the women’s tournament, the Japanese team exhibited determination, culminating in a hard-fought victory that went down to the buzzer against a very strong China team, with a final score of 14-12. The third-place positions were secured by the host nation, South Korea, in the men’s category and Thailand in the women’s. The South Korean men’s team impressed the crowd with their spirited performance, securing a well-deserved spot on the podium. Similarly, Thailand’s women’s team showcased their grit, earning them a place among the top three.

The next leg of the Seven Series is scheduled to be played in October in Bangkok, Thailand, after the much-anticipated Asian Games in China.
