The countdown is on for the opening leg of the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Series 2025, which kicks off in Hangzhou, China, on 20, 21 September. The tournament marks a historic return to Hangzhou Normal University, the spectacular venue of the 2023 Asian Games Rugby Sevens, where Asia’s finest will once again light up the pitch.
This season sets a new record: 12 national teams in both the men’s and women’s competitions, expanded from 8 in previous editions. With World Rugby’s restructuring of the HSBC SVNS, the top-placed men’s and women’s teams in the Series will secure a coveted place in the new World Rugby HSBC SVNS Division 3, creating a direct global pathway for emerging nations.
Expansion and Inclusion Across Asia
With the Asia Rugby Emirates Trophy and the Emirates Sevens Series combined, more than 45 national teams will compete in Asia Rugby’s Rugby Sevens competitions during the 2025 season. This makes it one of the largest and most inclusive Rugby Sevens structures globally, with one Trophy round and two Series rounds.

Women’s newcomers: India and Indonesia
Sri Lanka women return to the top tier, strengthening the competition.
