Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Series 2025 Heads to Colombo for the Grand Finale

Sri Lanka set to host the thrilling final leg at  Racecourse Stadium, Colombo.

Asia’s top rugby sevens nations are gearing up for the electrifying finale of the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Series 2025, taking place at the iconic Racecourse Stadium in Colombo. Following an action-packed opening leg in Hangzhou, China, the stage is now set for the ultimate showdown that will decide Asia’s champions and determine which teams secure their place on the World Rugby HSBC SVNS Division 3 pathway.

This year’s Series marks a landmark season for Asia Rugby, expanding to 24 teams in the men’s and women’s competitions, showcasing the sport’s rapid growth, inclusivity, and the region’s deepening competitiveness on the world stage.

President’s Message

Qais Al Dhalai, President of Asia Rugby, said:

The  Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Series 2025  is more than a tournament — it’s a platform for dreams, development, and a direct bridge to the global game. We thank our partners, Emirates and Sri Lanka Rugby, for their unwavering commitment to making this vision a reality.”

Commitment to Sustainability and Legacy

Continuing Asia Rugby’s commitment to sustainability, the ‘A Try – A Tree’ initiative will once again be implemented, where every try scored contributes to tree planting across Asia — promoting environmental stewardship alongside sporting excellence.

Fans attending the Colombo leg will also enjoy interactive fan zones, youth clinics, and digital engagement activations, strengthening the bond between rugby communities and the continent’s future stars.

Competitions Committee Chair’s Remarks

Asanga Seneviratne, Chairperson of Asia Rugby’s Competitions Committee, commented:

“Bringing the final to Colombo after 7 years is a homecoming of sorts — Sri Lanka has always been a pivotal part  of Asian Sevens. With 24 men and women’s teams competing in high-intensity rugby, on a pathway to the global stage.

The  Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Series embodies Asia Rugby’s vision – to give every possible opportunity for our youth to raise performance standards, compete on the global stage and inspire all through sport.”

Pavithra Fernando, President of Sri Lanka Rugby, said:

“As the newly elected President of Sri Lanka Rugby, I am proud to welcome all teams, officials, and the Asia Rugby family to Colombo for this prestigious finale. We are committed to hosting more international events of this calibre and to bringing back the glory days of Sri Lanka Rugby — united, competitive, and inspiring a new generation of players and fans.”
