Asia Rugby has co-opted Mr Wang Yun, President of the Chinese Rugby Football Association (CRFA), as a Vice-President of Asia Rugby, filling the casual vacancy created following the resignation of the previous Vice-President.
The appointment was made by the Asia Rugby Executive Committee in accordance with the relevant provisions of the organisation’s Articles of Association and Regulations governing casual vacancies.
Maintaining Regional Representation
In considering the vacancy, Asia Rugby recognised the importance of maintaining balanced representation across the different sub-regions of Asia.
As the previous Vice-President represented East Asia, the Executive Committee considered it appropriate to maintain East Asian representation within Asia Rugby’s senior leadership.
Asia Rugby President Qais Al Dhalai briefed the Executive Committee on Mr Wang Yun’s suitability for the position, highlighting his leadership of the Chinese Rugby Football Association, his commitment to the development of rugby, and the experience he can bring to Asia Rugby at a strategic level.
At Asia Rugby’s Quarter 3 Executive Committee meeting, Mr Wang Yun’s appointment was formally proposed by Executive Committee Member Mr Batbayar Purevjargal and seconded by Vice-President Mr Tanka Lal Ghising. The proposal received the unanimous support of the Executive Committee.
President Al Dhalai said:
“We are pleased to welcome Mr Wang Yun as a Vice-President of Asia Rugby. China is an important member of the Asian rugby family, and Mr Wang brings significant leadership experience and a strong commitment to the continued development of our sport.
“His appointment also enables us to maintain representation from East Asia within our Vice-Presidential leadership, while strengthening the collective experience of the Executive Committee as we continue to grow rugby across the continent.”
China’s Growing Contribution to Asian Rugby
China continues to play an increasingly important role in the development of rugby in Asia, including hosting major Asia Rugby competitions and supporting the growth and visibility of the sport across the region.
Mr Wang’s appointment further strengthens the relationship between Asia Rugby and the Chinese Rugby Football Association as the organisation continues to work closely with its Member Unions across the continent.
Mr Wang Yun said:
“It is an honour to be appointed Vice-President of Asia Rugby. I look forward to working alongside President Qais Al Dhalai, the Executive Committee, Asia Rugby’s Member Unions and our partners to support the continued development of rugby throughout Asia.
“China is committed to contributing to the wider growth of the game, and I look forward to supporting greater collaboration and creating more opportunities for rugby across our region.”
Asia Rugby congratulates Mr Wang Yun on his appointment and looks forward to his contribution as Vice-President as the organisation continues its work to develop, strengthen and grow rugby across Asia.
