The AGRF joined the IRB in 1977 and in that same year the Qatar Rugby Union Football changed its name and relocated grounds to what we call nowadays, the Doha Rugby Football Club. The Commonwealth expatriates working in the oil industry and military continued to play and Rugby slowly started to blossom and in 1998 the first grassed pitched was laid at the Rugby Club and in 2010 the ARGFU was divvied into Unions.
In 1974 the first established rugby union club in Doha was named Qatar Rugby Union Football Club. Soon afterwards the AGFRU was formed of which Qatar Football club was a founding member.
